African Safaris - in BOTSWANA
Travel Wild Selected Safaris.
In Botswana there are 4 main types of safaris offering different levels of comfort and to suit all budgets –
Mobile Camping
safaris
Give a real flavour of the African bush. Camping out under the stars, bush showers, cooking over a campfire are all part of the experience.
Choose from, Participation to Luxury and from scheduled to tailor made.
All mobile safaris are taken in a game vehicle, led by an experienced guide and assistants. As the name suggest you move camp every 2 - 3 days to explore different areas.
Fly –in Lodge safaris
These safaris offer overnight accommodation in a selection of Lodges. Activities vary depending on the lodge location- boat cruises, game drives, mokoro excursions and bush walks, just some of the many activities.
Lodges are linked by short flights in light aircraft, or on occasion by boat.
Lodges Safari Combination
Offer a camping experience with a few nights in Lodges along the way to supply a few more creature comforts.
Self drive safaris
Self drive safaris are becoming more and more popular in Botswana especially for those combining a holiday with Namibia and South Africa. Botswana has limited tar roads generally linking the main towns only. All other roads are sand tracks in various conditions from fairly good to terrible!!
Pre and Post Safari Accommodation
All of our safaris start or finish at our Lodge in Maun – Motsentsela Tree Lodge.
This Lodge is set on a 200 hectare game farm just outside Maun and has giraffe, gemsbok, eland, impala, zebra wandering freely on the Farm. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind either before your safari (to get over your long haul flight) or to relax at the end of the safaris before heading home.
There are 3 marked walking trails for you to explore and view the game on foot.
Scheduled Group safaris
If you are 1 or 2 persons who wish to join a scheduled group safari Travel Wild work with several safaris which offer these scheduled trips. As you are joining a group – these safaris offer great value for money and give the opportunity to meet fellow like-minded travellers!
Additions
With all safaris, we can provide additional activities to the start of finish of your trip. We not try something really special.

Self drive safaris
Self drive safaris are becoming more and more popular in Botswana especially for those combining a holiday with Namibia and South Africa. Botswana has limited tar roads generally linking the main towns only. All other roads are sand tracks in various conditions from fairly good to terrible!!
This type of safaris is recommended for those with 2-3 weeks holiday as the distances and therefore time between destinations are quite long.
These safaris involve hiring a car from, either Maun, Windhoek or Johannesburg and driving from place to place. You can either –
1) hire a fully equipped 4wheel Drive car with camping gear, (therefore able to self cater and camp in all areas)
2) hire a 4 Wheel drive with no equipment (therefore stay in camps/Lodges with accommodation)
3) hire a 2 Wheel drive car. (stick to main tar roads, using local operators for activities into the National Parks and tourist areas)
NOTE
Hire of 4 Wheel drive cars is only recommended for those with previous experience as the roads within the National Parks, especially in high season, are fairly challenging and signposting is less than adequate.
Tailor-make a self drive itinerary
Travel Wild can make campsite bookings in the National Parks as well as offering a selection of overnight stops in Lodges and bed and breakfasts. If you choose this option – we can help you tailor make a trip using our knowledge of distances and road conditions in the areas.
We give pre-trip briefings and 4WD tips at our Maun office.

4WD SELF DRIVES ARE DISCOURAGED BETWEEN DECEMBER AND APRIL because of bad road conditions during the rainy season.
